Today I just wanted to touch on something all of us girls (& fingers crossed theres a few guys still reading along) are guilty of: the good ole "oh, I don't remember where I got this" line. There are a few times when you will find yourself reaching for the name of the store you found those awesome boots at, but most of the time, you're avoiding spilling a secret haven of goodies, or you're afraid someone will "copy your style". I get it. I've been there. There's just something about having a special place to collect pieces from, or the allure of keeping some exclusivity to your style. But sharing a favorite store with a friend could help them find the scarf they've been looking for, or even give them a greater appreciation for your taste (and vice versa)! The fear of someone "stealing your style" is real, it's a legitimate fear. Your style is a very personal thing, it's a tangible, outward expression of who we are. It's one of the very first things that makes an impression when you meet someone and it's something most of us can instantly relate to. BUT 'your' style is also a melting pot of everyone you've ever met, everything you've ever seen, and anything you have drawn inspiration from. We are all constantly being inspired by other peoples style; its a collaboration.
So, is it okay to have a store you don't advertise? I suggest not deliberately hiding it. Also, when asking someone about an item of their clothing you're swooning over: IF you do go out and buy it (which is 100% okay), put your own spin on it. Style may be a collaboration over all, but it is individual as well, and people enjoy being set apart. Blatatly copying someone is taking away a piece of something they created. And not giving credit to the person who inspired you? A big no-no in my book.
Basically, don't be the girl who steals an outfit, but also don't be the one who locks away future favorite stores for others.
