Girls, this one is for you.
Today's post is going to stray a little from style. This is a post completely dedicated to my favorite makeup, hair, and beauty routine. Stick with me, it's a little wordy.
I plan to reveal all my essential products, favorite makeup, and a few tips. This is jam-packed with information, straight from my "beauty routine".
makeup:
I'm sure I've mentioned it multiple times in various interviews, but I'll say it again: I am a mascara person. I'm all about eyes and eyelashes, so naturally, mascara plays a big part. To me, mascara is the most important makeup product. I could count on one hand the times I've worn fake eyelashes (they're tricky little suckers), so I've had many opportunities to try a million different mascaras. From drugstore brands, to scouring places like Sephora, I've been on the hunt for "the perfect mascara". Right now I'm loving "Maybelline's Full 'N Soft" mascara (1). It's one of their older ones, but I love that my lashes are still feathery while being lengthened/thickened (plus it's perfect if you like multiple coats of mascara, like me!). Conveniently, it's cheap, and available at every drugstore and grocery store. I also love all of the mascaras from the Kardashian line at Ulta! I was flipping through a magazine and happened to stop on a quick interview Khloe did. Lucky for me, she was promoting their new line and mentioned she's also a mascara stickler and that she loved their line of mascara. Naturally, I had to try them out for myself, and I love all of them (you can even get all four in a mini size to try them all here)!
Other makeup products I love: Tarte's cheek stain in Natural Beauty (2), Burts Bee's chapstick (original & pomegranate) (3), Physicians Formula's Pearl Bronzer/Blush (4), N.Y.X Super Skinny/Fat Eye Marker (5) (for the perfect cat eye), etc.
I tend to stick to warm tones for my eye makeup like olive green, shades of bronze, gold, and things like that. For my cheeks, I always have a little blush on the apples of my cheeks, and bronzer to define my cheekbones. To top it all off, I do a few clump free coats of mascara, and define my eye shape with a "cat eye". hair:
A lot of you comment on my hair, and ask how I do it, what products I use, and I am now giving you your answers! I have naturally curly hair, so typically it does it's own thing, while I'm trying to keep up with it and manage the curls. I've used many products over the years but have finally found some products I think I'll stick with. For shampoo & conditioner, I love all of the Organix lines (6), especially the coconut and moroccan products. I also love Wen: it is shampoo and conditioner (AND even a product if you want) all wrapped up in one bottle. After shampoo/conditioner is where a great product comes into play for curly hair. I love Miss Jessie's Pillow Soft Curls (8): it's light and doesn't weigh my curls down, it ALSO smells like fresh laundry which is surprisingly nice. I tend to let my hair dry by itself because it's easiest and the healthiest thing for curls. Sometimes I don't have the luxury of letting it dry on it's own, and that is when a blow dryer and diffuser come in handy.
If you have curly hair, you know washing it every day is never going to happen, and is unnecessary most of the time. A fun little tool to revive second day curls is the Q-Redew: it helps perk up limp hair without the trouble of washing it every day. You can read about it and buy it here.
face:
I have very sensitive skin, which can be a problem when picking out cleansers/moisturizers/etc. For my cleanser, I use Cetaphil (9), it's gentle, but does the job and leaves my skin feeling soft. Right after I wash my face, I put moisturizer on because your face absorbs it more when it's a little damp. For moisturizer, I use Neutrogena's Healthy Skin (10): it is packed with vitamins which helps your skin have a natural glow.
As far as my beauty routine goes, I keep it simple. I think the more you mess with your face, the more problems you'll end up having. I wash my face once a day, at night before I go to sleep, put moisturizer on, and put moisturizer on again when I wake up. Once a week I'l do a scrub, I like to use St. Ives Green Tea scrub (11) because it helps with any breakouts, plus the green tea is calming. I've also recently invested in a facial steamer ($20 at Ulta!) and I try to use it at least twice a week. I think it "wakes up" my skin, and makes it look really fresh, so I don't have to wear too much face makeup.
That's the basic run-down on all my favorite products, and my routine. Hope you enjoyed it! Let me know if you try any of the products I mentioned and tell me what you think!
